Isao Takahata is one of the most important and influential
\nanimators in the history of the medium. With a career spanning six
\ndecades, he has helped shape Japan’s domestic animation industry
\nand inspired audiences worldwide. A co-founder of the legendary
\nStudio Ghibli, Takahata has directed films such as Grave
\nof the Fireflies<\/em>, proving that “cartoons” can be every bit as
\npowerful as live action cinema.<\/p>\n

With his final movie The Tale of the Princess
\nKaguya <\/em> — a beautiful adaptation of a thousand-year old
\nJapanese fairy tale, where a bamboo cutter raises a mysterious girl
\nhe finds in a tree — about to open in UK cinemas, WIRED.co.uk had
\nthe pleasure of speaking with Takahata on his earliest work in the
\nanime industry, his evolving artistic influences, and Studio
\nGhibli’s legacy.<\/p>\n
