‘Great Firewall of China’ behind GitHub attack, experts claim

 

China is to blame for the large scale attack on coding website GitHub, according to security researchers. Analysis of the attack has revealed the so-called ‘Great Firewall of China’, which censors internet access in the country, was used to attack the coding website.

The distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack, which began on Thursday, used innocent internet users browsing the web from outside of China to bombard GitHub with traffic. Certain requests for websites using JavaScript from Baidu Analytics, which is similar to Google’s site tracking service, were hijacked to continuously reload two specific pages on GitHub.
