Scrap randomised trials in favour of big data, says ex-IBM medical officer

Randomised controlled studies that are traditionally considered to be the “gold standard” in medical research are resulting in inefficient healthcare strategies that mean around a third of spending on healthcare goes to waste, says Martin Kohn.

Kohn is chief medical scientist at Sentrian and former chief medical scientist of IBM. He believes that to cut the wastage and develop properly personalised healthcare, we must transition to a system where we are using big data to solve medical problems.
