When Final Fantasy VII Remake director Tetsuya Nomura said the game would be different to the 1997 original, we thought he meant changes in gameplay or story. As it turns out, one of the biggest changes will be release format — contrary to expectations, the highly anticipated reboot of the beloved JRPG may be released episodically.
Despite wowing crowds with its gameplay debut at Sony’s PlayStation Experience conference in San Francisco this weekend, no mention was made of launch date or release pattern at the event. However, in a press release sent out following the reveal, publisher Square Enix says “Final Fantasy 7 Remake will be told across a multi-part series, with each entry providing its own unique experience”.
